Hi, I am Andrew Lucio.
I’m drawn to authentic moments — quiet pauses, subtle expressions, and the emotion that naturally exists between people and their environments.
Outside of digital work, I love shooting film and exploring textured, weathered spaces. I'm constantly inspired by movement, music, cinema, and the unique atmosphere of places. Even while watching films, I'm drawn to technical details—lighting, framing, color, pacing—and how emotion is conveyed without words. All of these influences shape my approach to photography and storytelling.
Documenting life gradually became a creative practice rooted in light, texture, atmosphere, and human connection. Portraiture eventually became my strongest focus.
I approach every session collaboratively and with respect for those I photograph and the stories they choose to share. I'm inspired by the balance between vulnerability and strength, especially through movement, expression, and natural, unforced moments.
My goal isn’t perfection, but to create honest, expressive imagery that feels human, personal, and emotionally grounded. If you're looking for imagery that feels emotive, collaborative, and personal, I’d love to hear your ideas and create something meaningful together.
Based in the DMV area, I frequently work throughout Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland, often incorporating meaningful locations and textured environments into my sessions.
My Process
Collaboration First
Every session begins with conversation.
Some clients arrive with clear ideas, while others seek images that feel authentic. Both are welcome. I guide each session collaboratively to develop a natural mood or direction, avoiding anything that feels forced.
I love integrating meaningful elements into each session, such as personally significant locations, chosen accessories, wardrobe details, movement, textures, or small objects that tell your story. These subtle details add depth and emotion, making the experience feel more personal, intentional, and authentic.
Creating Space
I avoid heavy posing or rigid structure in photography.
Sessions are relaxed, unfolding over hours for movement, experimentation, quiet, and natural shifts in light and mood.
I focus my vision on authentic presence and genuine connection.
Shooting Style
I blend digital and film photography, using natural light and real locations to capture moments that feel genuine and grounded—much like the memories you want to preserve.
I’m drawn to dramatic shadows, movement, and those little imperfections that make each photo feel real—like the moments you experience every day.
During sessions, I use an iPad to give us a larger, real-time view of our photos. This way, we can pause and review moments together, refine ideas on the spot, and build trust as we go—so your experience feels personal and collaborative from start to finish.
Many photos already capture the feeling and atmosphere we created together. When editing, I gently adjust tone and composition to highlight what makes your moment special—always keeping the original spirit intact.
*** Music is always part of the atmosphere. I build custom playlists based on the session's mood or your musical preferences, creating a relaxed, immersive environment as we shoot. ***
Editing & Final Delivery
While many images already carry the emotion I’m looking for straight out of the camera, the editing process allows me to refine tone, pacing, composition, and atmosphere while staying true to the original moment.
The final gallery is intentionally curated rather than overwhelming, with the option to expand selections, add film imagery, or create printed zines and visual stories from the session.
